Alpha Protocol is a third-person role playing game from the action genre that is developed by Obsidian Entertainment. It is published by SEGA. The game centers on CIA field agent Michael Thornton and his adventures as a rookie.
The plot starts from a mission that goes awry. Michael Thornton could not interact with his contacts. His superiors betrayed him and the United States government is hunting him. As a response, Michael turns to the Alpha Protocol. This is reserved for senior agents. He operates undercover and discovers conspiracy after conspiracy.

Alpha Protocol is played in the third person-perspective in order for the gamer to see the surroundings of Thornton at any given point during the game. As a trained CIA operative, the tools that are in the gamer’s disposal as Michael are firearms, spy gadgets, and hand-to-hand combat weapons.
Players will also enjoy the Advancement Points aside from the action elements in Alpha Protocol. This allows them to play at any skills in the game. There are ten all in all. The skills increase the ability of Thornton to use selected weapons. He also gains other abilities. These abilities require a cooling down period though after use. Thornton must recharge first before he uses another ability.

In the preview of Alpha Protocol, an ability lets Thornton scan the group of enemies surrounding him in a slow-motion. He can do this before he pops out of his hiding place. Another ability is he can shoot his enemies faster than he normally would.
Just like any RPG, the game Alpha Protocol allows the protagonist to interact with a number of characters. The conversations take place in real time. The dialogues in the game let the player choose among three attitudes. Actually, this was inspired by three movies characters: Jack Bauer of 24, James Bond of we all know where, and Jason Bourne of The Bourne Identity. Each character reacts too the different choices the gamer selects as Michael. The consequences of the gamer’s choicees during the conversation may lead to a fight or just childish bickering. It also determines the ending of the game.
Alpha Protocol in structured like a hub. Thornton must use safe houses in the hub cities so that he can do his mission in an undercover manner. From the safe house, Thornton can also change his clothes, access his telephone contacts and his weapon locker, and attempt missions. The missions are somehow critical for the story to progress. There are other missions though that are merely optional. Gamers can also buy and sell the equipment and weapons in the safe houses. The hub cities are Moscow, Rome, Taipei, and Saudi Arabia.
The characters in Alpha Protocol are an array of quirky and interesting individuals. The inspiration here is Kill Bill. This is for the player to enjoy the game every minute they play. If not, it would be too boring to play. That is why the manufacturers of the game do their very best to come up with the best features that the game has to offer. Alpha Protocol is not an exception. It’s an ok game, but I bet you can find a better action mmorpg out there.
