Unlike the other pro-wrestling video games that Yuke had developed in the past, UFC 2009 Undisputed brings the art of mixed martial arts video game simulation to the next level. Yuke wants their latest offering to be a success that they decided to use a new game engine different from what they use for their other pro-wrestling games. Also, they brought in a new group of people to comprise the development team whose main responsibility is to make the game as realistic as possible.
The game will feature over a hundred personalities from the Ultimate Fighting Championship scene. Current and former champions from all the five weight divisions will be included in the game. Leading the pack are Randy Couture (Heavyweight), Chuck Liddell (Light Heavyweight), Anderson Silva (Middleweight), Georges St-Pierre (Welterweight) and B.J. Penn (Lightweight). Broadcaster Joe Rogan, ring announcer Bruce Buffer and even ring girl Arianny Celeste will also be feature in the game.
UFC 2009 Undisputed boosts itself of providing the best visual game play available. Players will be impressed with the in-game models used in the game as well as how real the injuries of the fighters look like as the game progresses. The close resemblance of the virtual fighters with their real life counterparts in terms of their physical appearance was made possible through state-of-the-art 3-dimensional scanning technology.
In the game, a variety of mixed martial arts fighting styles such as wrestling, judo, boxing, Muay Thai and more shall be available for a player to choose from. The signature moves including submissions that fighters use in real competition is also present in the game.
In terms of game play controls, UFC 2009 Undisputed wants the players to feel that the game pad controller is simply an extension of the video game character they are playing. The combination of control buttons for the different moves that each fighter can perform is very easy to master. Making an opponent to submit can be as easy as pressing buttons A, B and Y.
But if there is one thing that makes UFC 2009 Undisputed a cut above the rest is its ground game aspect. Almost half of the action will be played on the ground inside the eight-sided ring with both fighters grappling each other to get the other player to submit.
There are a lot of factors that will make this game a sure hit once it hits the market. But if there is one thing about the game that gamers will truly enjoy. It will have to be the opportunity to see champion fighters battling it out for UFC supremacy inside the octagon arena.
